One of our key building blocks to helping women and their families recover from their crisis situation is connecting them to the community. Support systems must be established prior to exiting the program. These support systems are built through agencies such as church small groups, civic groups, AA, NA, and other outside fellowship opportunities.
Volunteering as a Naomi Woman is an excellent way to help emotionally support the women and their families at the Ruth House.
What is a Naomi Woman?
She is a woman who lovingly comes alongside of the women and their families as they learn to live life on life’s terms. She is someone who offers sound counsel and provides support while the women learn to walk with God and implement healthy behaviors. She is a shoulder to cry on while times are tough and a friend to rejoice with when victories, big and small, occur. When the women at Ruth House are ready to move out, a Naomi Woman will continue to walk alongside them. She will encourage them to maintain healthy life choices and relationship with God.
Michelle Rolf is a current Naomi woman. She is a safe place for the women to grow in their relationship with God and she shows them how to love their children with a godly love. She does this by simply being a friend and doing day-to-day life activities with the families.
The women and children staying in the house desperately need your prayers. Saying ‘no’ to destructive/addictive life choices and saying ‘yes’ to living a healthy life is a very challenging task. Prayer is a powerful way to support these women and their children as they begin down the difficult road to recovery.
Pray that the women’s eyes be open to the life-changing love of Jesus and that their hearts learn to accept his forgiveness and grace on a daily basis.
Pray for those counseling the women, may they have the words that will speak directly to the lies that keep these women from making healthy choices.
Pray for the children as they learn to trust and respect their mothers.
Pray for peace amongst the women living together, may they have patience with one another through their transitions from destructive to joy-filled lives.
